RE: Long Distance Towing for RV and Truck

I looked into that in Florida. I had to tow a 32" TTto Maine. If you google "professional truck driver" and then your town, you should be able to find services like that. Tha proble is the cost. They wanted from me $1.60 a mile, plus gas. So if you towing for 1000 miles...your bill is already at $1600. Thats why I bought myself an older truck, fixed it and towed it by myself.

RE: My first Tow...weight problems HELP!

I wanna follow up on my trip. Everything went fine except for these few things: 1 - My MAX speed on highway was 45 mph (LOL) Took me 4 days from Florida to Maine, never passed one single car or truck lol and a couple of truckers let me know that I was swaying too much (didnt have sway control). 2 - Next time I will buy a Truckers Guide for Gas stations. Its VERY hard to get gas in small gas stations in small towns with such a long trailer; you simply dont fit. I was looking for big gas stations like Flying-J or Truckers plazas, but they are not always available. 3 - My tongue weight was horribly high and my hitch scratched the ground at several occasions. I was probably 8 inches from the ground, and on flat highway It was ok, but coming and going from gas stations and plazas was a pain. 4 - I really enjoy the slow ride because of the speed! It cost me about $300 in gas (at $3.95 gal) FYI the truck is still alive and works fine. I had a second tow and everything went fine. But that one was short. Thanx everybody!

RE: Refrigerator question...

I called a dealer today and I talked to a Tech. and it looks like my thermostat to broken, so the fridge works fine its just that it "doesnt know" what is the temperature inside, and "it thinks" its either way too cold or too hot. So it goes bezerk. I ordered a new thermostat which is a plug-n-play thingy inside the fridge and I should be fine. Kirk, yes the gas is a problem because I dont want to haul the trailer 130 miles the the closest dealer. New thermostat costed new $26 incuded shipping. My model is N620 (or N612 dont remember) Whats up with that bulletin? Can I get a copy please?

Refrigerator question...

My refrigerator is acting really strange. I have a Norcold in my travel trailer, has a fridge and freezer. 2 months ago it stopped working, started to flash 5 times every 3 sec so I shut it off for a while. I checked the boards and they seem fine. I checked the vents and they are ok. I called Norcold and they told me to ground the fridge (pin 5 to ground for 30 sec and reset after that) and I did that... Now I have the following situation: The fridge is running on gas and power and it seems like its working but its cooling too much and everything freezes inside even though I keep the cooling settings at minimum. Then after 3 days like that, it starts to cool off...but then it doesnt cool enough at all and everything melts in there. I have the suspicion that these problems started when I stick a hot dish in it a while ago trying to cool it quickly. I know it was stupid, but I did. What can I do at this point? I live in an area where every deale is far away, and I dont want to send anything to Norcold because I'm not really sure what the problem might be. Any ideas? Help please. Thank you.

RE: My first Tow...weight problems HELP!

OK, i'll jump in as well. Last year was the first TT for us, bought the '07 Zinger and figured the '05 1500 Silverado would be fine (was told so by the salesman). One trip to Idaho and back across Highway 2 convinced me that I should have bought a smaller TT but the deed was done. So, I remedied my problem with an '08 2500HD Sierra. Have not gone far yet, but I would not think twice about going anywhere now. The comfort of having extra power and capacity is great. BUT, if I was not ready/able to upgrade, I would simply slow down and make sure ALL my preventive maintenance is done. I would also make sure that I maximize my TV by adding as little as possible. Are the weights you stated from a scale or a "best guess"? A scale would be the best way to be sure. The weights are my guess, readin the labels. I will keep the trailer EMPTY, just to assure for an easy ride. And this is going to be a one time tow...hopefully I will be able to afford something more in the future.

My first Tow...weight problems HELP!

Hi, this is my first time towing my Travel trailer and I have no idea if I'm doing it right. I have a Gulfstream, Kingsport 286 30' long Weight 6900 lbs (actual weight when I will be towing it) Towing vehicle: 1995 Ford F150 super cab short bed Total towing Weight: 7300 GVWR 6050 Base payload capacity 1850 I'm very confused about 3 things: 1 - Is this truck able to tow my trailer (looks like it is since its able to tow 7300 2 - how much weight can I put ON THE TRUCK in terms of cargo? I have some boxes I want to take with me and have to calculate what to keep and what throw away. 3 - what hitch class do I need? I'm driving from Florida to Maine, what is the ideal speed on interstate? Please any help will be appreciated I really dont know where to start to get information. Thank you a lot! MikyMoose
